ADABAS Migration

The ADABAS conversion solution product offering helps organizations automatically migrate applications to modern, open technologies and database management systems. When an ADABAS/Natural migration is complete, a client will have functionally equivalent, seamlessly integrated applications, with Web capability that provides a reduced cost structure, improved business agility, applications that are SOA enabled and able to take advantage of new technical capabilities.

Conversion Components

Using DB-Shuttle™ Migration Technology, ATERAS converts all ADABAS/Natural component types, including:

  • ADABAS Databases
  • ADABAS Data Record Types
  • Natural Programs
  • Natural Maps
  • Construct Programs
  • ADABAS COBOL programs
  • Online Printing
  • ADABAS-related JCL syntax
  • ADABAS-related Utilities within job streams
Architecture

The ADABAS/Natural conversion maintains the general architecture of the former Natural program. No changes to the program structure are introduced during the Adabas conversion. However, changes are made during the migration to introduce some layering aspects that provide flexibility for future processing:

  • Business Layer
    Former Natural program includes logic flow and field editing within the program structure itself; the conversion preserves these functions within the base program
  • Presentation Layer
    If the selected target language is not one of the COBOL dialects, the presentation layer processing may be placed into a separate layer
  • Database Layer
    Performs SQL database access and updates

Using DB-Shuttle, the automated Adabas conversion preserves the flow of ADABAS Natural programs while converting the database calls, the presentation of the screens to the user, and the Natural language itself.

Database Options

Former Adabas database access is converted to process against the relational database of choice:

  • IBM DB2 (or UDB) on the mainframe
  • IBM UDB on Windows
  • IBM UDB on Unix
  • Oracle on the mainframe

  • SQL Server on Windows
Language Options

Several DB-Shuttle options are available for ADABAS/Natural replacement:

  • Mainframe COBOL CICS with BMS maps
