ADABAS/Natural Project News

• A state government in the southeast U.S. wanted a C# SQL Server replacement for their ADABAS Natural applications while preserving the DB2 database. ATERAS used its automated tool suite to assess and convert over 2,000 ADABAS and Natural components to new Windows-based applications that process against SQL Server and the existing DB2 database. The new .NET system went live in March of 2012.
• The Savannah River Site (SRO) of the US Department of Energy was using an ADABAS database and Natural applications in a mainframe environment that was due to be shut down in December 2011. SRO needed a fast, cost-effective solution. ATERAS converted the ADABAS database to SQL Server and rehosted the Natural workload to the economical ATP on Windows. By keeping Natural syntax with ATP, SRO was able to turn off their mainframe within 5 months of the project start.
• The University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), had been using ADABAS and Natural for all of its student and administrative functions for many years. UCSB wanted a more agile and less expensive solution which would take full advantage of the web and preserve their business rules. ATERAS completed the assessment process, reducing the scope of the project from 11,000 source code components to 7,000, and is nearing completion on the conversion. • A Canadian Government agency wanted to understand the scope and complexity of their Adabas/Natural applications in preparation for a conversion to a more modern platform. ATERAS performed an automated mainframe Assessment of their applications and delivered comprehensive reports, a fixed bid and detailed project schedule for the 11,000+ components and over 2 million lines of code.
• A US State agency wanted to know what options they had to move from their legacy Adabas/Natural platform. ATERAS performed a completely automated assessment of their existing application and discovered only 2,300 of the 3,900 components were being used. This reduced the scope of the task significantly and ATERAS was able to provide cost and time frame estimates for both a conversion to C# on a variety of databases or a modernization effort to C# or Java. The State agency now has the information they need to determine their future direction.
