Application language groups that are chosen for converted applications may vary between applications and within applications. The configurations and languages that are chosen for converted applications should be based upon application needs, the skill sets that customer teams have and plan to have, and goals and objectives for the future.

ATERAS provides conversion capabilities to re-construct the applications in the following languages:

• MVS CICS COBOL
• MVS Batch COBOL with MVS JCL
• C# .NET*
• COBOL .NET*

Converted databases and batch processing programs may be kept on the mainframe, using the current scheduling packages and current mainframe support and escalation processes. Online applications may be converted to one of the new .NET languages such as C# or Visual Basic, or even to COBOL in the .NET environment. Converted online applications may stay on the mainframe, but migrate from ADS/Online or Ideal or Natural, to non-proprietary CICS COBOL processing that uses the new relational databases. Migration all of the processing (database, batch and online) to Windows may also occur.

As part of the IDMS ADS/Online, IDMS-DC or IMS-DC conversion, ATERAS uses the automation technology, DB-Shuttle™ to create a multi-tier architecture for the new online applications. The new Presentation Layer provides the user interface to the applications. The IO Layer ensures consistent access to the new relational databases. The Business Layer performs the same business processing that the applications provide today.

The programs, modules, objects, functions, methods, job streams and documentation that are produced by DB-Shuttle™ during the conversion are self-documented, are easy to understand and maintain, and are presented to customer teams as a 'new application.' The converted components are re-packaged and delivered to the customer teams, with installation instructions, documentation and a complete roadmap from the pre-conversion components to the converted applications and databases.

ATERAS uses DB-Shuttle to convert proprietary languages to non-proprietary languages, producing converted applications that are more open, more flexible, and easier to integrate and maintain.
