Mainframe DB2 databases have historically been the database-of-choice for large organizations that are batch-centric and well-versed in mainframe processing. During recent years, DB2 has made its way to other platforms as well.
DB2 is also known as the Universal Database (UDB). The DB2 UDB product family operates on the mainframe, AIX, Linux, HP-UX, Sun and Windows. The capabilities on each platform vary somewhat and the processing syntax also varies.
Most established organizations use some type of mainframe relational database management system for their online and batch processing. Most organizations use the Internet to provide access to their centralized mainframe databases as well as their distributed databases. Most organizations operate relational databases on both the mainframe and distributed platforms.
There is value in other IBM toolsets for relational processing. DB2 Connect provides DB2 UDB connectivity across platforms. DB2 Everyplace provides database synchronization for mobile and embedded devices. Other IBM tools and utilities provide additional services related to DB2 UDB relational databases.
DB-Shuttle™ Automation Technology
ATERAS uses our unique technology, DB-Shuttle to convert IDMS databases, IMS databases and VSAM file structures to any dialect of DB2 UDB. Whether your new databases reside on the mainframe, Windows, Unix or Linux, your relational DB2 UDB database structure is fast, accessible and easily integrated with your other relational databases and applications.
DB-Shuttle also writes all of the programs required to extract the data from your non-relational databases and files structures into the format required for loading with the DB2 UDB utilities.
DB-Shuttle can also convert any relational data from other database management systems to DB2 and from any DB2 platform to any other DB2 UDB platform. DB-Shuttle also completes any required EBCDIC to ASCII conversion.
